How We Plan a Content Shoot, Step by Step

Clients often ask what actually happens before we show up with cameras. Here is the honest version of our process, stripped of jargon.

1. The brief conversation

We start with one question: what should someone feel when they see this content? Not “what do you want to post” — what should they feel. Every other decision flows from that answer.

2. The walk-through

Before any shoot, we visit the location at the same time of day the shoot will happen. We check where the sun will be, where the noise is, which corners photograph well, and which ones never will. Twenty minutes here regularly saves the entire shoot.

3. The shot list

We agree on a short list of must-have shots with the client: hero images, people shots, details. Then we leave deliberate room for what we cannot plan — a chef’s laugh, an unexpected rain shower, a dog that insists on being in frame.

4. The shoot

We arrive early, set up once, and shoot with intention. Nobody on our team will make your staff dance on cue. We direct, we adjust, and we keep the energy light, because relaxed people photograph like themselves.

5. The handoff

Within days, the client gets organized, ready-to-post content, not a folder of four hundred raw files. Editing, captions, and scheduling are a separate conversation — but the raw material is built to be used immediately.

That is the whole system. It is not magic; it is preparation plus taste. And it is exactly what a Production Visit or a Mobile Capture day buys you.
